GEAS 2023 is gathering key African ministers and government officials to discuss expectations from the next Conference of Parties
Ahead of the COP 28 taking place in Dubai at the end of the year, GEAS 2023 is gathering key African ministers and government officials to discuss expectations from the next Conference of Parties.
The Ministerial Panel will represent the diversify of African interests and situations and will welcome the participation of:
The outcome of COP27 generated mixed feelings for African nations. While the establishment of the Loss and Damage Fund and the launch of the Africa Carbon Markets Initiative (ACMI) were positive developments, ending energy poverty, increasing climate adaptation investments, and mobilising concessional finance are all urgent priorities that remain to be addressed.
The Ministerial COP Panel Discussion at GEAS 2023 will be addressing mixed results from COP 27 and focus on the key targets that must be achieved at COP 28. Africa remains the continent with the highest vulnerability to climate change according to most indicators, including the Note Dame Global Adaptation Initiative. Droughts are currently affecting food security and hydropower production across several African nations, while repeated floodings are causing significant damage to critical infrastructure across the continent.
GEAS 2023 will be offering a platform for African officials to come together ahead of COP 28 and debate Africa’s position around climate justice and climate resilience. It will highlight the needs of key markets in West, East and Southern Africa and come up with solutions and initiatives that can be taken to secure capital and support to meet Africa’s climate adapation and carbon reduction targets.
The Green Energy Africa Summit 2023 will take place at CTICC2 in Cape Town on October 10th-11th, 2023. For more information on the programme or to register today, click here.
