GEAS 2023: Spotlight on Green Energy Deals with Prestigious Financiers and Investors

GEAS 2023 to focus on green energy deals with prestigious line up of financiers and investors

The Green Energy Africa Summit (GEAS) 2023 is building momentum as it gets ready to welcome a prestigious line up of financiers to discuss the financing of Africa’s sustainable energy future. This year’s programme is joined by some of the biggest names in the business, including development finance institutions (DFIs), funds, banks and PE firms such as KfW INPEX-Bank, Ninety One, Standard Bank, Absa CIB, RMB, and Stonechair Capital.

GEAS 2023 will notably hold a high-level panel discussion on the financing of sustainable energy to highlight Africa’s financing needs and identify the best ways to unlock local, regional, and international capital for African energy projects.

The discussion will be joined by Alastair Herbertson, Director at Ninety-One; Theuns Ehlers, Head Resources & Project Finance at Absa CIB; Nigel Beck, Head of Sustainable Finance and ESG Advisory at RMB; Thorsten Metz, Director at KfW IPEX-Bank; and Vukile Davidson, Chief Director Financial Markets and Sustainability Treasury at the National Treasury.

GEAS takes place as African nations seek to secure several deals to finance their energy sector growth, including via just energy transition partnerships (JETP). In 2021, South Africa became the first African country to launch a JETP to secure an initial $8.5 billion with France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the USA, and the European Union. In 2023, Senegal became second and secured a similar agreement with the International Partners Group for an initial €2.5 billion.

However, Africa’s energy needs are wide and require several billions of dollars a year over decades to lift millions out of energy poverty and build resilient and low-carbon energy systems that support industrialization and economic growth.

GEAS’ impressive lineup of investors and financiers demonstrates the Summit’s commitment to being a global platform advocating for Africa’s energy needs and a high-energy future across the continent.

The Green Energy Africa Summit 2023 will take place at CTICC2 in Cape Town on October 10th-11th, 2023. For more information on the programme or to register today, click here.
