Germany provides a grant of 20 million euros to Ghana. The funding is intended to strengthen technical cooperation between the two countries in the fields of agro-industry, renewable energy and energy efficiency.
The funding will be provided by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the German agency for international development cooperation. The grant agreement was signed by Christoph Retzlaff, the German Ambassador to Ghana, and Patrick Nomo, the Director-General of the Ghanaian Ministry of Finance.
"Our goal is to create jobs and protect the environment. This grant is part of our development cooperation, which amounts to 130 million euros per year." says Christoph Retzlaff, German Ambassador to Ghana. Technical support will be provided for the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects for the industry, public buildings and households.
In 2017, Berlin committed € 100 million to promote private investment in the renewable energy sector. Including Germany who has supported Ghana's sustainable development efforts for more than €1.5 billion since 1957.
At Green Energy Africa Summit further partnerships between governments and financiers will be made to further the energy transition in Africa. To learn more about investments into clean energy and to meet with the global financiers, IPPs and governments who will be in attendance, contact us here.
